The wafer mount holder is suitable for industry standard silicon micro-tip arrays used in atom probe, and is compatible with all major APT systems.
The mount is made of a hardened copper alloy (Stainless steel option; see dropdown), and is suitable for UHV conditions. Two screws hold down a cover plate allowing for complete control over the clamp force used on the sample, whilst locking the sample securely in place. A tungsten guide post allows for the cover plate to be gripped and inserted with careful control. Tips are accessible along the open edge of the holder, and the sample can be rotated to access all tips.
The mount can be handled with either normal tweezers, or more readily with cylinder stub tweezers, to maximise the contact area and control of the sample during handling. The use of cylinder tweezers minimises the risk of samples falling or being damaged due to mishandling that is common with pointed tweezers. The hardened alloy minimises the risk of damage when fastening the post to the holder,
In a polished state, the tungsten post can be used to check counter electrodes, up to the operating voltage of your sample, allowing for a quick yes/no check for counter electrode utility
Samples can be loaded with the cover plate either removed or simply loosened and raised during sample loading. The stubs can be used with or without the accompanying docking station. The use of a docking station (available separately, contact us) is recommended, to allow for sample insertion or rotation to be as effortless as possible.
Copper stubs may tarnish with extended storage in air - a short dip in an orthophosphoric-water solution can be used to remove the tarnish layer. Alternately, we can provide a refurbishment service to replace tarnished stubs that are otherwise undamaged, subject to minimum quantities (contact us).
